How Fast Does Your VPS Need to Be for Arbitrage?

Short answer: for latency arbitrage, network distance to the broker matters far more than CPU power.

The number that matters is network latency to your broker’s server, not gigahertz or core count. For latency arbitrage you want the round trip between your VPS and the broker to be as close to a single-digit millisecond, or lower, as possible, which in practice means hosting in the same data center as the broker (co-location). A powerful VPS that sits far from the broker is slower where it counts than a modest VPS sitting next to it. For slower, capital-driven strategies, a stable ordinary VPS is enough.

“Fast” means low latency, not high specs

The most common VPS mistake in arbitrage is buying on CPU and RAM. Those matter for running the software smoothly, but they are not the edge. The edge is how quickly a price change can travel from the market to your engine, and your order back to the broker.
