The mechanism is simple: a fast aggregated feed represents gold’s true price with minimal delay, while a retail broker’s quote lags. When the reference price moves and the broker’s quote is still showing the old number, you trade against that stale quote and capture a gap equal to the lag. Naive lock arbitrage on gold is easy to detect because entries correlate with fast-feed ticks.
