A complete picture includes what goes wrong. Overfitting turns backtests into fiction. Execution costs — spread, commission, slippage and last look — quietly erase paper edges. A bug, a disconnect or a data glitch can do damage at machine speed, which is why kill switches exist. And any strategy that extracts value from a broker’s pricing invites requotes, delays and restrictions. None of this makes algorithmic trading a bad idea; it makes discipline, validation and realistic expectations the difference between a system that compounds and one that quietly bleeds.
